Volt Sponsors Hire America's Heroes Symposium

Event focuses corporate America's attention on U.S. military veterans when making hiring decisions

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Volt Information Sciences, Inc., through its staffing business unit Volt Workforce Solutions, announced its corporate sponsorship of the Hire America's Heroes' 2011 Annual Symposium to be held on May 18, 2011 on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Hire America's Heroes is a non-profit organization that seeks to connect America's major corporations with the rich skills and abilities of military service members and their families for the purpose of employment in the corporate workforce.

Volt will join Hire America's Heroes and U.S. Military leaders at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in welcoming more than 200 corporate representatives to the base. This year's symposium event, "Inside the Gated Community," offers a behind-the-scenes look at the tactics, technology, and tools used by America's service men and women, along with the business advantages of hiring America's veterans. Flight simulations, vehicle digital technology and demonstrations of the technical skills of U.S. military medical professionals will be on display.

"One of the biggest challenges that our U.S. service men and women face when transitioning to the civilian workforce is translating the valuable technical skills, training and security clearances they've gained while in the military to match those attributes that are most in-demand among American corporations," said Marjorie James, President of Hire America's Heroes and Program Manager of Volt Military Programs. "Through this high-visibility event, we have a unique opportunity to showcase the strengths and skills, leadership and managerial traits of service members that could assist Human Resource leaders in their decision to hire military veterans."

"With more than 200,000 military veterans exiting each year, our veterans represent a precious and diverse pool of talent that is readily available. During their military service, veterans have risked their lives in war to protect our country and I believe it is the duty of corporate America to help prepare these brave men and women for civilian careers," said Jerome Shaw, Executive Vice President and Co-founder of Volt Information Sciences, Inc. "If the tone at the top in terms of veteran hiring is set correctly within corporate America, we'll be able to increase the participation of veterans within our workforce."

Shaw further commented, "As a corporate leader, Volt pledges to collaborate closely with clients to elevate their hiring practices to honor and respect each veteran's service and sacrifice for our country. The beneficiaries are not only veterans but corporations who support these heroes and welcome them as part of their workforce."
